Brentwood

Brentwood Neighborhood Profile

Brentwood , now one of hippest and most modern of the Austin , Texas neighborhoods began life as a rural community. What is now Brentwood was once a cotton farm just north of Austin . The city purchased the farm in the late 1940s and the annexation paved the way for the building of the Brentwood Elementary school and the establishing of the Brentwood neighborhood park in 1951. Today, the Brentwood community is one of Austin ‘s most coveted neighborhoods. The convenient location, excellent schools, and lively community life draw an eclectic range of residents, which range from university professors, engineers, high-tech professionals, politicians, and young families.

Bordered by Burnet Road , Lamar Blvd. , 45th Street , and Justin Lane , Brentwood is also divided by creek that runs up Arroyo Seco. The location of this hip neighborhood could not be more convenient. The University of Texas at Austin , the Pickle Center , and downtown Austin are all only a fifteen minute drive away and many of the area’s high tech employers are also close by. In fact, most Brentwood residents report a commute that is less than 20 minutes long.

And it’s great that the commute is so short, as it allows residents to enjoy more time in their beautiful Brentwood homes. Brentwood boasts some apartments and an excellent selection of single-family homes. Many of the properties here boast many amenities, a beautiful look, great yards and features such as hardwood floors. The local real estate market and housing prices are going strong and the homes here offer an excellent quality of life for neighborhood residents.

In addition to enjoying lovely homes, residents get to enjoy plenty to see and do right in their own backyards. The neighborhood is famous for its independent, local businesses, many of which have been around since the 1950s. Famous hamburger joints and eateries such as Night Hawk Frisco Shop, Dan’s Hamburgers, La Victoria Bakery, Threadgills (where Janis Joplin got started), Top Notch (famous for its appearance in the movie “Dazed and Confused”) and Billys are great places to relax and enjoy a great meal. Local pubs such as Brentwood Tavern Ginnys Little Longhorn, the Poodle Dog Lounge, and LaLas, are also traditional local favorites and are the perfect place to get to know your neighbors.

The local park features plenty of green spaces and a pool while Arroyo Seco has opportunities for bicycling or hiking. Nearby Lakeway is just a short drive away along the very scenic FM 2222 — Austin ‘s answer to Highway 1. If you love the outdoors, all the trees and green spaces in the area are sure to appeal to you. There are also outdoor social events, such as the annual Violet Crown Festival, which is a great way to taste local food, art, and music, and the annual decoration of the canal.

Just because Brentwood is hip, that does not mean that it is not a great family community. Quite the opposite, in fact. Brentwood has a number of excellent, award-winning schools.

McCallum High School has strong AP options and is Austin ‘s Fine Arts Academy. Brentwood Elementary was recognized with a Gold Performance Acknowledgment in writing and science recently. Local private schools include the Montessori Petite Ecole Internationale, which features French immersion opportunities for students.

Whether you want to raise a family, attend school, or boost your career in Austin , Brentwood is an ideal place to live. With a warm, friendly, and eco-aware atmosphere, it offers Austin urban-suburban living at its finest.
